Picture this a serene neighborhood nestled within the bustling Northern Virginia landscape. This is Pimmit Hills a place where history whispers through the rustling leaves of ancient oaks. Pimmit Hills is more than just a residential area. It’s a living testament to the passage of time. Its story begins long before the first houses were built.

Let’s journey back to 1672. John Pimmit and Thomas Browne received a generous 100 acres of land. This land was paid for with 5200 pounds of tobacco. The deed was later recorded in Stafford County. This land would eventually become the foundation of Pimmit Hills. Sadly John Pimmit’s life ended tragically in February 1688. He drowned in the Potomac River near the stream that now bears his name. An Indian who found his body received payment for their efforts.

Fast forward to the mid-20th century. The area which is now Pimmit Hills was mainly farmland. Then in 1950 things changed dramatically. Construction began on a new subdivision. This was designed to provide homes for World War II and Korean War veterans. These modest three-bedroom one-bathroom houses offered 833 square feet of living space. They sold for $9950 a remarkable price for the time. George Offutt and his construction company played a significant role in building the first 500 homes. By 1957-58 the community was complete boasting 1675 homes.

Over the years Pimmit Hills transformed. The once treeless farm fields became home to majestic oak and tulip trees. Real estate values have soared. In May 2023 the median sale price of a home reached a staggering $1.1 million. Many of the original homes have been replaced with larger more modern constructions. This reflects the area’s increasing desirability. Pimmit Hills boasts proximity to Tysons Corner. It also offers easy access to the Silver Line Metro. This provides convenient commuting options to Washington DC and beyond.

One notable landmark is the Pimmit Barn. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Friends of Pimmit Barn this historic structure has been preserved. The barn was built by Lisle Smith a dairy farmer. It now serves as a community gathering place. It hosts events such as outdoor movies and Fall Festivals. The barn’s history is intrinsically linked to the development of Pimmit Hills. It stands as a reminder of the area’s agricultural past. The Pimmit Barn represents a successful blend of preservation and community spirit. This neighborhood is a vibrant mix of old and new. It continues to evolve while maintaining a sense of community.

The story of Pimmit Hills is one of transformation. It’s a captivating tale of land deals and pioneering families. It’s also a story of growth and adaptation. From modest beginnings to a thriving modern community Pimmit Hills is a neighborhood worth exploring. Its rich history is woven into the fabric of its existence. It’s a neighborhood that is both historically significant and undeniably charming.
