It stands as a symbol of unity in a diverse area. The building itself is striking. Its design is unique. The main church building has an elliptical shape. A modern architectural marvel. Its blue roof is eye-catching. The adjoining rectangular building houses meeting rooms apartments and offices. The architect Zdeněk Jiran masterfully blended the sacred and the secular.
The history of the Komunitní centrum svatého Prokopa is fascinating. It began in 1991. Initially only a church was planned. It was to be clad in ashlar. The cornerstone was indeed blessed by the Pope in 1999. The French Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament played a pivotal role. They initiated the project. Sister Madeleine Strobl led the efforts. They oversaw the administrative financial and spiritual aspects. The scope expanded. The center now serves the youth the elderly and the entire community.
Construction began on March 1 2000. The bell was installed in April 2001. The building was completed May 10 2001. The official opening was held June 19 2001. Mayor Petr Bratský and Father Mariusz Kuźaniar presided. Archbishop Miloslav Vlk blessed the center. The city of Prague contributed 2.5 million crowns to the project. Sponsors funded 37 percent of the construction. Subcontractors were selected based on their willingness to sponsor the project.
The Komunitní centrum svatého Prokopa’s interior is flexible. Movable panels adapt the size of the main hall. This allows for various events. The church has a chapel for 100 people. A multi-purpose hall serves as a meeting room and clubroom. A community hall is located on the upper floor with a gallery. The building’s design symbolizes the interplay between the sacred and the everyday. The curved lines of the church represent the boundless nature of faith. The rectangular lines of the community center reflect practical life.
Today the Komunitní centrum svatého Prokopa thrives. It hosts regular religious services. It offers educational programs. It is a hub for community gatherings. The Farní charita Stodůlky and a psychotherapeutic counseling center are based here. The center continues to fulfill its vision. It’s a beacon of community spirit in the heart of Stodůlky.
