In 1905, a graceful metal bridge arched across the Ill River. This is the Passerelle de l’Abreuvoir. It delicately connects the Ruelle de l’Abreuvoir to the Quai des Bateliers. In 2006, the city of Strasbourg meticulously replaced the deck. They kept the original design and pink sandstone pillars. The Passerelle de l’Abreuvoir has held several names. Initially, it was the “Tränkgässelbrücke”. Later, during the German occupation in 1940, it retained this name. The French name, Passerelle de l’Abreuvoir, was officially adopted in 1927.
