Have you ever felt the salty spray of the Atlantic on your face? Welcome to Mouille Point a captivating corner of Cape Town. Here on the promenade you stand where history whispers secrets of the sea.

Mouille Point’s name itself hints at a fascinating past. It’s derived from the French word ‘mouille’ meaning anchoring ground. In the early 1700s ships frequently wrecked in Table Bay. The governor decided a breakwater was necessary to safeguard vessels. Work started in 1743. Farmers hauled stones to Mouille Point. Slaves and convicts labored tirelessly. Despite their efforts only 100 meters were built. The project was abandoned.

Undeterred the French arrived in 1781. They constructed a battery near the unfinished breakwater. They named it Mouille Point Battery. A lighthouse once stood proudly here. Its location proved confusing leading to its demolition. The Green Point Lighthouse stands as a nearby sentinel.

The promenade before you is a beloved spot. Joggers walkers and rollerbladers throng the paved path. Watersport enthusiasts dot the ocean. Kayakers surfers divers and swimmers enjoy the Atlantic’s embrace. The sunsets and sunrises are simply breathtaking.

Mouille Point is more than just a stunning location. It’s a blend of history and modern luxury. High-end apartment buildings dominate the skyline. Yet the seaside charm remains. The proximity to the V&A Waterfront and the city center adds to its allure. It’s a place where tranquility meets vibrancy.

Imagine the scene in the 1960s. Opposite the old lighthouse stood The Doll House a drive-in roadhouse. People enjoyed snacks and coffee from their cars. Seagulls were notorious for their food-stealing antics. Mouille Point has always been a lively hub of activity.

Today Mouille Point continues to enchant. It blends luxurious living with the beauty of the sea. It’s a perfect place to stroll reflect and appreciate Cape Town’s captivating spirit. So breathe in the fresh air feel the ocean breeze and let Mouille Point’s story unfold before you.
