By 1973, the Biblioteca da Escola de Comunicações e Artes gained its independence.
Its official opening took place in May 1970. At that time, the Biblioteca da ECA held about 1000 books. It also had 50 periodical titles. Later that year, the library received significant donations. Francisco Matarazzo Sobrinho donated art books. The Escola de Arte Dramática contributed books, periodicals, and theater pieces.
