“Can you feel that?” whispered a voice, barely audible above the sea breeze. “The spirit of Saint Nektarios, right here at this very church.” We are standing before the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nektarios, a beacon of faith for the Greek Orthodox community here in Petone, Wellington. You might not expect to find such a vibrant piece of Greece nestled in this corner of New Zealand. But the presence of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nektarios reminds us that faith, like life, finds a way to flourish in the most unexpected places. The church falls under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and the Metropolis of New Zealand and Exarchate of All Oceania. The church’s very existence is a testament to the strong faith and dedication of the Greek community here in Wellington. And leading this community is Protopr. Konstantinos Tsourapas.
