Picture Mount Zion Apostolic Church. It began humbly. In 1967 a prayer meeting in Bishop W A Hall’s basement marked its birth. No Apostolic Church like Jamaica’s existed in Toronto then. Minister Skyers and Deacon Hall drafted its constitution. They sent it to Ottawa. A bank loan secured funds. A store at 1301 Bloor Street West became its first home.
Elder Ricketts was its first pastor. The congregation grew. Soon they needed more space. Mount Zion moved to 48 Fisher Street in 1968. Many Jamaican immigrants worshipped there. From Mount Zion other churches branched out. Fellowship remained strong.
A Malton branch emerged. Evangelist Anderson and Deacon Hamilton held prayer meetings. They found space at St Michael’s Catholic School in 1977. A year later they moved to the Malton Community Centre. Fifteen years passed there. Many found salvation. The congregation continued to grow.
Back in Toronto at 48 Fisher Street the church outgrew its building again. In 1978 Mount Zion bought 106-108 Holland Park Avenue. Another move followed. Today Mount Zion stands proudly at 30 Pemican Court. Other branches opened in Windsor Ontario and Roseau Dominica. In 2009 a Barrie Ontario branch opened.
Bishop Hall dreamed of a Malton church building. His dream came true. Deacon Hamilton’s wife found land. In 1992 6810 Professional Court was purchased. Many contributed to Mount Zion’s success. They raised funds prayed and invited visitors. Mount Zion Apostolic Church of Canada continues to thrive. Its journey reflects faith dedication and growth.
