“New knights” is what Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School calls its ideal graduates. We stand before a place that has fostered such individuals since 1891. Kaijo Academy began as a prep school. It aimed to prepare students for the Naval Academy.
Founder Kooga喜三郎 envisioned “cultivating human resources useful to the nation and society”. Today, Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School strives to nurture students with liberal spirits. They should possess thoughtfulness, defend democracy and communicate clearly.
The school’s name “Kaijo” evokes warships. In 1900, the Naval Department requested the change from “Naval Preparatory School” to “Kaijo School”. The school badge features “KS” for Kaijo School. It was designed by a teacher, Yamanouchi Mitsuhito. The design cleverly uses sails and wind to symbolize students and supportive teachers.
Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School emphasizes a “genuine and healthy” spirit. It fosters liberal and smart thinking. The curriculum includes unique programs. Project Adventure builds teamwork. Drama Education promotes experiential learning. These experiences cultivate essential skills. They prepare students for the demands of the modern world.
Once, Kaijo Academy admitted high school students. However, in 2011, it stopped high school enrollment. Now, Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School is fully integrated. It provides six years of consistent education.
Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School boasts impressive facilities. Its campus covers 21,142 square meters. It is among the largest schools along the Yamanote Line. The grounds feature an artificial turf ground of approximately 13,000 square meters. There is also an arena, outdoor pool, and various martial arts halls.
Inside, classrooms support varied learning styles. There are special activity rooms. There are also science labs and a music room. A cafeteria offers an open dining space. The library houses about 60,000 books.
The school song was created in 1923. The lyrics were written by Hirota Masahira. The music was composed by Mukouyama Toshio. The uniform is a black gakuran student uniform. It features gold school badge buttons. Earlier uniforms included naval-style designs.
Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School’s IT education is forward-thinking. Since 2024, every student uses a MacBook Air. Teachers also use iPads and MacBooks. Projectors enhance lessons.
Kaijo Junior High School; Kaijo High School holds various annual events. “Kaijo Festival” is a major cultural festival. It attracts around 20,000 visitors over two days. Students plan and manage the festival. “Mountain House” fosters cooperation and respect for nature.
The Tenno Award recognizes exceptional students. It is awarded to two students per grade each year. This award is a tribute to Kano敬一, who supported the school during a crisis. He later served as chairman.
