Dr. Peter Henderson Bryce was born in 1853. He became a medical doctor. Bryce championed public health and Indigenous rights. He graduated from the University of Toronto. Bryce studied bacteriology.

Dr. Peter Bryce’s findings were largely ignored. His superiors denied his recommendations. By 1914, his work for the department ended. Yet, Bryce continued his fight.

In 1922, Dr. Peter Bryce published “The Story of a National Crime.” This pamphlet exposed the health crisis in residential schools. He called attention to the obstacles he faced. Public response was limited at the time.

Dr. Peter Bryce’s legacy has grown over time. He is remembered as an early whistleblower. He spoke out for the public good. Bryce risked his career to advocate for Indigenous children.
