Gazing upon the Antoniushaus, one might not immediately guess the layers of history woven into its walls. This building, located at Frankfurter Str. 99 in W\u00fcrzburg, is more than just an Alten- und Pflegeheim. It is a testament to faith and community.

Let’s journey back to the 18th century. The Antoniushaus began its life as a guesthouse called “Zu den zwei guten Greifen”. Valentin Wiesen, a Zeller wine merchant, built it in 1715. It became a popular destination.

Fast forward to 1855. Antonia Werr purchased the property. She envisioned a different purpose for it. She acquired it with gardens, barns, stables, and fields. Werr transformed it to suit her needs. A chapel, dormitories, dining halls, and workshops took shape. By 1856, it became the motherhouse of the “Katholischen Jungfrauenvereins von der hl. Kindheit Jesu”. This translates to the Catholic Association of Virgins of the Holy Childhood of Jesus.

Imagine the sisters in their habits moving through these halls. They dedicated themselves to charitable works. The Antoniushaus served as their base until 1923. Later, in 1924, the building saw further expansion. A bakery and bathing facilities were added. It could then accommodate 75 residents.

For many years, the Antoniushaus functioned as a welfare home. It later became a retirement home for sisters in 1975. A major renovation from 1995 to 1999 gave the Altenheim its current appearance. While the buildings changed, the name Antoniushaus remained.

Today, the Antoniushaus provides a peaceful setting. It is surrounded by orchards and woods. It is located near the Oberzell monastery. The Antoniushaus offers just 41 places for elderly care. This includes 27 single rooms and 7 double rooms. This ensures a familiar, individual atmosphere. It is rooted in Christian values. Liturgical celebrations in the beautiful chapel are open to all.

The rooms are bright and furnished with wooden furniture. Residents personalize their spaces with their own belongings. Each room has a private bathroom. They all include emergency call systems, telephones, and TV connections. The house also features communal spaces. There are dining rooms, group rooms, and accessible gardens.

The Antoniushaus focuses on creating a sense of belonging. Staff, residents, families, and guests form a lively community. Fresh meals are prepared daily. Seasonal and regional products are used, including produce from the Klostergarten.

Consider the weekly program. It includes worship, exercise, and creative activities. There is something for everyone. The Antoniushaus embodies a philosophy of care. It views aging as a meaningful stage of life. They support the residents with respect. They preserve their independence. They address individual needs.

The Antoniushaus stands as a testament to W\u00fcrzburg’s history and faith. It evolved from a guesthouse to a center of care. It is a place where community and compassion intertwine. Its story is a reminder of the enduring values that shape this city.
