“Real Worship for Real People” is more than just a motto. It is the heart of Eastern Community Church. This church is a vibrant place of fellowship. It welcomes everyone seeking spiritual growth.

Eastern Community Church’s story began with a small group of determined parishioners. This was on June 13, 1976. Initially, a layperson led Sunday worship. An ordained minister consecrated communion on the first Sunday of each month.

In February 1977, Eastern Community Church selected its first Pastor, Reverend Braxton J. Boyd, Sr. This marked a significant step in the church’s development.

In 1989, Eastern Community Church purchased its first home. It was located at 38th and Rhode Island Avenue in Mt. Rainer, Maryland. The first worship service was held there on the first Sunday in September.

A new chapter began in 2001. Damion M. Briggs became the seventh pastor. His visionary leadership spurred growth. The increasing membership became a concern for Pastor Briggs. He sought a new, larger building.

In October 2001, Eastern Community Church moved to its current location. It is located at 8213 Manson Street in Landover, Maryland.

Under Pastor Briggs’ leadership, Eastern Community Church has experienced spiritual growth. Its membership has grown. The church draws people of all ages. It introduces them to God’s love.

Numerous ministries and outreach programs have been established. These include Audio/Video Christian Education and Gospel Choir. There is also Dance, Deacon, and Deaconess ministries. The church also offers Enrichment Tutoring and Scholarships. Evangelism and Greeters are also part of the church’s outreach.

Eastern Community Church extends a warm welcome to all. It is a family of believers. They are committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They achieve this through teaching, preaching, and being a light for those who have lost hope.

The church was previously led by several reverends. They include Reverend Braxton Boyd, Reverend James Williamson, and Reverend Albert Simms. Reverend Roy Neal and Reverend Carlton A. Powell also served.

Pastor Briggs received his calling in 1990. He was ordained in 1998. He served at Second New Saint Paul Baptist Church under Reverend Dr. Edgar L. Williams, Sr.

In November 2001, Pastor Briggs was selected as Pastor of Eastern Community Church. At that time the church had only eight members. Within two years, he led the church to a new, larger building in Landover, MD.

Under his leadership, Eastern Community Church has experienced growth. Several ministries have been established. They promote Christian growth and provide community outreach.

Pastor Briggs also serves as the 2nd Vice President of the National Capital Baptist Convention. He has also traveled abroad. He preaches and teaches the Gospel.

Eastern Community Church embraces technology. It uses social media to reach those beyond its walls.

Eastern Community Church is more than a building. It is a community. It is a place where faith grows and lives are transformed.
