“Ever imagine a church evolving from a humble chapel to a parish hub? That’s the story of Santissima Trinità / Presveta Trojica here in Trieste.” Back in 1673, a small chapel served the religious needs of Cattinara and nearby areas. Cattinara was a village detached from Trieste. Fast forward to 1784. Emperor Joseph II oversaw the construction of a larger church dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

The church was consecrated on May 25, 1800, by Bishop Ignazio Gaetano de Buset. An image of St. Mary of Grignano found a home here after its own church was demolished in the early 1800s. Santissima Trinità / Presveta Trojica became a focal point for pastoral care in 1785. It extended its reach towards the Karst plateau. It also covered parts of Grozzana. Closer to the city, it included areas of Guardiella, Rozzol, and S. Maria Maddalena Inferiore. These areas once belonged to the parishes of Sant’Antonio Taumaturgo and S. Maria Maggiore.

In 1892, the parish of Santissima Trinità was officially established. Parish records date back to 1785. An interesting detail is that in 1868, there was a plan to replace the existing church with a new one. This project never materialized. The parish today includes Cattinara, Longera, and Raute.

Consider the bell tower. It was added to the facade between 1883 and 1884. Santissima Trinità stands as a testament to faith and community. It evolved over centuries.

As you stand before Santissima Trinità / Presveta Trojica, consider its humble beginnings. Think about the generations who sought solace and community within these walls. Imagine the voices raised in prayer and song. Consider how this church has been a constant presence. It has been a place of worship for the people of Cattinara. Santissima Trinità / Presveta Trojica isn’t just a building. It is a living history.
