Before Blacktown was a bustling suburb it was home to the Darug people. They lived around South Creek Eastern Creek and Prospect. Sadly many died from diseases brought by the British.

Blacktown’s story begins long before its official naming. The land was originally inhabited by various Darug clans for centuries. Their presence is a crucial part of Blacktown’s identity. Their connection to the land continues to hold significance today.

In 1823 a Native Institution a school for Aboriginal children moved to Blacktown. This institution played a sad role in the Stolen Generations. It highlights a dark chapter in Australia’s history. The impact of this institution is a vital part of Blacktown’s narrative. The road leading to the institution became known as Black Town Road. This later shortened to Blacktown.

The 1950s and 1960s witnessed a boom in suburban development. Blacktown’s population exploded. The first Westfield shopping centre opened in 1959. A hospital followed in 1965 along with a courthouse and police station.
