“Drn,” a simple Czech word for “turf,” cleverly disguises the innovation before us. The Drn building stands here on Národní street. It’s a testament to modern Czech architecture. Let’s explore this unique space together.

The Drn wasn’t built that long ago. Construction started in 2012 and finished in 2017. Before the Drn, this very spot was a car park. Imagine this prime real estate filled with cars. Now, it’s home to some of Prague’s most desirable offices.

Stanislav Fiala designed the Drn. He created a polyfunctional building. It houses offices, shops, and restaurants. The Drn is a blend of form and function.

Look at the facade. It is an organic shape made of glass and steel. Balconies with greenery adorn each level. This gives the building its name as Drn means turf in Czech. It appears as if nature is reclaiming the urban space.

Notice the building’s height. The Drn has four underground floors and eight above ground. A green roof tops it off. This design maximizes space and adds a touch of nature.

The Drn also has a historic connection. The baroque Schönkirchovský palác connects to the Drn at the back. This creates an interesting juxtaposition of old and new. The building won “Building of the Year” in 2019. This award recognised its green elements and unique design.

In the evening, the Drn transforms. RGB facade management illuminates the building with colorful lights. 430 DALI luminaires create stunning light shows. The lights even display the Czech national colors.

The Drn’s location is significant. It stands on the corner of Národní and Mikulandská streets. This area has seen much change over the years. The Drn represents Prague’s modern evolution.

The building’s design also considers its neighbors. It responds to the different heights of nearby buildings. Receding floors and green balconies help it blend in.

Step inside the Drn. A two-story commercial parterre connects to the street. This creates an inviting space for pedestrians. Underground, four floors conceal garages and technical facilities. Above, seven floors contain modern offices.

The Drn is more than just a building. It is a symbol of sustainable architecture. Its green roof and organic design demonstrate a commitment to the environment. The building integrates nature into the urban landscape.

The Drn also serves as a community hub. Shops, restaurants, and galleries bring people together. The building enhances the vibrancy of Prague’s New Town.

Consider the architect’s vision. Stanislav Fiala sought to create a modern and sustainable design. He successfully blended the old and new. The Drn is a testament to his creativity. The Drn building shows how old and new can combine.
