Did Mike Dal Santo ever imagine his legacy would be etched into the very mountains he loved? Here, we remember Mike Dal Santo, a silent hero of North Shore Rescue. Mike’s story began on October 23, 1952, in Surrey, BC. While working as a software developer for Telus, he found his true calling in 2000, joining North Shore Rescue. Mike Dal Santo wasn’t just a rescuer; he was the backbone of the organization. He served on committees, meticulously maintained critical equipment, and was instrumental in the trail marking program. He was a silent hero, preferring to work behind the scenes. Mike’s contributions were monumental. He took on substantial projects, ensuring the team operated at a professional level. His work spanned operational, administrative, and prevention roles, crucial to North Shore Rescue’s mandate. Tragically, Mike passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2018, while on vacation in Palm Springs. He was 65 years old. He left behind a grieving family: his father Igino, sister Gale, and special friend Beverley. He also left behind his North Shore Rescue family, who remember his unwavering passion, caring nature, and steadfast friendship. A celebration of Mike Dal Santo’s life was held at Boal Chapel in North Vancouver. His memory lives on in the mountains he dedicated his life to protecting. Mike Dal Santo, the silent hero, will never be forgotten.
