Once upon a time, this ground was far more somber. It was a cemetery. Now, we stand at the entrance to Streckerpark. This green space offers a tranquil escape.

Streckerpark wasn’t always a park. Until 1876, it served as the Ober-Sankt-Veiter cemetery. In 1908, the grounds were transformed. The city created a park for locals to enjoy. Streckerpark’s area covers about 5,500 square meters.

Take a look around you. Notice the park’s unusual triangular shape. This shape dictates the layout. Asymmetrical paths wind through the greenery.

Imagine, back in 1908, residents celebrated the park’s opening. A stone inscription tablet was placed. It still stands as a reminder of that day.

The park’s name honors Alexander Strecker. He was the mayor of Ober-St.-Veit from 1877 to 1879. The city officially named the park after him on December 7, 1990.

Many use Streckerpark to relax. Its proximity to the Westeinfahrt makes it valuable. The Westeinfahrt is a busy route into Vienna. People traveling from Lower Austria use it every day. Therefore, a place for relaxation is very important.

Older people sit on benches and young children run around. This park is for everyone.

While smaller than other Viennese parks, Streckerpark has its charm. The Lainzer Tiergarten and Schlosspark Schönbrunn are bigger. Yet, this park offers a more intimate experience.

Consider the location. The surrounding streets are densely built. This makes Streckerpark an oasis. South of here, green spaces become larger. But this small park provides a vital break.

Today, Streckerpark provides a space for locals to relax. It stands as a testament to Vienna’s history. It has changed from a cemetery to a park. It offers fresh air to those seeking refuge from the city. Streckerpark is more than just a park. It represents Vienna’s commitment to green spaces. It is a place for community and remembrance.
