Paróquia Santa Luzia. A humble beginning marked this place. In 1974, the seeds of faith were sown. The first masses were held in homes, under the shade of trees. Then, a breakthrough. Father Alberto de Siqueira secured a classroom at Percival Xavier Rebelo School. Imagine the scene. A small record player filled the room with hymns. The community grew. They moved to the FUMDEC Community Center. Groups formed, like the Youth Community and the Apostolate of Prayer. The dream of a church building took hold. Funds were raised, even from Germany. The church rose, a testament to their dedication. Paróquia Santa Luzia officially became a parish in 1980. The first mass at the current location was celebrated on a truck bed. Father Siqueira and Monsignor Primo Vieira were there. Monsignor Vieira even composed a hymn for Santa Luzia. The church building was inaugurated in 1982. Archbishop Dom Fernando Gomes dos Santos blessed the new space. Paróquia Santa Luzia continued to flourish. New communities emerged, like Maria de Nazaré, São José, Jesus Transfigurado, and São Paulo Apóstolo. Many priests have guided this parish over the years. They include Fathers José Yves Marie Bernard, Antonio Ribeiro Manso, Alípio Martinez Fernandez, Alberto de Siqueira, Arlindo Santiago Amparado, Iracy Camilo do Carmo, Pedro Mendes Davi de Souza, João Dias Netto, Carlos Tanatinga Barreira M. de Lima, Elenivaldo Manoel dos Santos, Carlos Eduardo Nascimento, and Arpuim Aguiar. Today, Father Dorcílio de Oliveira Junior serves as the parish administrator. Paróquia Santa Luzia stands as a beacon of faith. It’s a testament to the power of community and the enduring spirit of the people.
