Blending two histories into one dynamic learning environment. That’s Ellesmere-Statton Public School. It serves a diverse community near Kennedy Road and Ellesmere Road. Approximately 640 students attend this large school.

Ellesmere-Statton Public School wasn’t always one entity. It’s an amalgamation of two schools. First was Ellesmere School S.S.#5. It was originally built in the 1840s. Then Wendell Statton Senior School was built in 1973. The schools then became one.

At Ellesmere-Statton Public School, a strong link exists to the school’s history. Several traditions are upheld. These include community barbecues and strong co-curricular programs. Athletic programs are also important. Student recognition and values assemblies take place. A growing community partnership also exists.

What sets Ellesmere-Statton Public School apart? It is becoming a Full Service School. It offers many programs in and out of the classroom. These programs happen before and after school. The school collaborates with community services. Students can access programs like homework knitting and chess. They can participate in fitness band choir and strings. Math Club Girls Club and Boys Reading are also available. A variety of athletic teams are offered. These include basketball volleyball and softball. Touch football Borden Ball cross country and track and field are options. The staff is dedicated and puts students first. Student success is achieved through the programs and curriculum.

Parent and community engagement is valued. Community volunteers assist in classrooms and the library. The facilities are used in the evening for social and recreational programs. After School Recreation Programs are offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. The school is a pre-service training site for OISE/UT Faculty of Education students. Co-op education placements are offered to local high school and Community College students. Students benefit from Toronto Police Services education programs. These programs help develop positive interaction with the community. Parent volunteers are appreciated in classrooms on field trips and with coaching.
