Here stands Peace Baptist Church a beacon of faith in Washington D.C. since 1911. Peace Baptist Church started humbly. It occupied a single room storefront. The founding members remodeled it themselves.
As Peace Baptist Church grew, the room became too small. Worshippers often stood outside. The congregation knew it needed a new location. They sought a new place to call home.
Eventually, Peace Baptist Church found a house with land. It was at the corner of 18th and Gales Place. The house was torn down. A new single-story structure was built. In December 1949, the congregation marched to its new location. They walked from 13th and H Street to 18th and Gales Place.
But Peace Baptist Church continued to grow. Again, the sanctuary became insufficient. Peace Baptist Church decided to rebuild on the same location. The sanctuary would be upstairs. The construction phase was called “to reach the land in the sky”. It symbolized building and moving upward. In December 1959, the “land in the sky” became a reality for Peace Baptist Church.
By 1981, change was needed again at Peace Baptist Church. Membership had increased significantly. There was a desire to provide more spiritual growth opportunities. Peace Baptist Church decided to expand. They aimed to meet the needs of the congregation and the community. Christian Education, Outreach Ministry, and Youth Department activities were implemented. This was in addition to worship services and Bible Study.
Enduring faith has fueled the growth of Peace Baptist Church. Their commitment to stronger families and community led to many activities. Free clothing fairs, seminars, and concerts enriched lives. In the last decade, several ministries emerged. The Breath of Life Substance Abuse ministry. The Shekinah ministry for HIV/AIDS support. The Daughters of Peace and Joshua Praise Dancers ministries.
Peace Baptist Church values peace and prosperity. It seeks these for the spirit, soul, sense, and substance. These values propelled Peace Baptist Church to provide services and activities. They enrich and empower members and the surrounding community. Victory in progress exemplifies their unfailing faith.

Today, Peace Baptist Church continues its mission. It serves the community. It fosters spiritual growth. It exemplifies enduring faith. The church supports foster children. Their Youth Ministry collects hygienic and clothing donations. These go to Eastern Senior High School’s Young Parent Program. Peace Baptist Church also provides a mobile app. It offers easy access to information and resources. Prayer calls are held multiple times a week. Peace Baptist Church is a vibrant center of faith and service. It stands as a testament to the power of community and commitment.
