Built by its own congregants the Milnerton Baptist Church stands tall. Its A-frame structure a testament to faith and community. Located on the corner of Shayele and Pringle roads in Sanddrift it’s a beacon of hope.

Founded in 1964 by Ivy Oosthuizen the church started humbly. Services were initially held in a home. It wasn’t long before the congregation outgrew the space. Under the guidance of Pastor Fritz Haus a plot of land was acquired in 1974.

The church members themselves built the current building. This was a remarkable feat of teamwork. Their dedication cemented the church’s place in the community. The building itself is a symbol of their commitment. It reflects the spirit of cooperation and perseverance.

Today Milnerton Baptist Church is much more than a place of worship. It serves as a community hub. A soup kitchen provides sustenance for those in need. Addiction recovery programs offer support. Various community organizations hold meetings within its walls.

Pastor Reg Friend recalls a time when the church was at the edge of town. The area was undeveloped. There was no Canal Walk. The church became a central point as the area grew. It has adapted to serve an ever-changing community.

The church’s 50th anniversary in 2014 was a major celebration. A special service was broadcast on SAfm. This commemorated the role radio played in the church’s early days. The celebration showcased the church’s deep roots and its ongoing impact on the community.

Milnerton Baptist Church is a living example of faith in action. It shows the power of community spirit. It is a testament to the enduring legacy of a small home service. It has grown into a vibrant hub of support and fellowship. The church stands as a symbol of hope for all who enter its doors.
