The inscription “PADLIM V BOJU PROTI NACIFASIZMU / AI CADUTI NELLA LOTTA CONTRO IL NAZIFASCISMO” is prominently displayed. This translates to “To the Fallen in the Fight Against Nazism-Fascism”.

This translates to “WE ARE NOT DEAD: WE HAVE SOWN OURSELVES! / IN DEEP FURROWS OUR SOWINGS ARE GREEN / O BROTHERS, BROTHERS, WE THEREFORE HAVE FALLEN / SO THAT THE DARK HORIZONS MIGHT CLEAR FOR YOU”.

Trieste’s Monumento ai caduti nella lotta contro il nazifascismo is not to be confused with another monument in the Parco della Rimembranza. That monument honors those fallen in World War I. It was unveiled in 1935, during the reign of Vittorio Emanuele III. The sculptor Attilio Selva created the statues. Enrico del Nebbio designed the pedestal. The monument depicts five nude men in a war scene. The pedestal bears the inscription “Trieste ai caduti nella guerra di liberazione MCMXV–MCMXVIII”. This monument embodies the nationalist idea of liberation from Austro-Hungarian rule.
