Shibuya Central Library stands as a modern gateway to knowledge. It offers a wide array of resources. You can find materials here. They range from traditional books to digital databases.

The Shibuya Central Library offers a lot of books. There are approximately 206,000 general books. The library also has about 28,000 children’s books. You can also find around 10,000 foreign language books. The library provides access to about 65,000 items in its storage collection. The library treasures the Wada Makoto Memorial Collection. It holds around 3,700 books.

Opening hours vary here. From Tuesday to Saturday, the library opens from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Sundays, Mondays, and national holidays, it is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Note that it is closed on the first Monday of even-numbered months. It is also closed on the third Thursday. The library also closes during the New Year’s period. Special inventory periods also affect opening hours.

Getting here is easy. You can take the JR Yamanote Line to Harajuku Station. From there, it is a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, take the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda or Fukutoshin Lines. Get off at Meiji-Jingumae Station and walk for 6 minutes. Several bus routes also serve the library.

The Shibuya Central Library provides many services. There is a fashion corner. It caters to the area’s young and trendy population. A self-reference corner helps you with research using the Internet. The library provides resources for the visually impaired. These include audio tapes, DAISY books, and Braille materials. The Shibuya Central Library also has a reading room. Children’s reading activities are supported through events and book discussions.

To borrow books, you need to register. You can register through the Shibuya LINE account. Alternatively, register in person at the library. To register in person, bring ID with your address. You can borrow up to 30 books and 10 CDs for two weeks. Return borrowed items to any Shibuya library. If the library is closed, use the book slot. Remember to return CDs directly to the counter.

You can search and reserve materials using “Kensakukun”. This resource is available in each library. You can also use the Shibuya libraries’ website. A request service allows you to reserve checked-out materials. It also lets you reserve books from other libraries. The Shibuya Central Library also provides reference services. These services offer a wide array of reference works.

Don’t miss the Foreign Books Corner. It has books mainly in English. It offers novels and books on Japanese life. Picture books are also available. CDs can be found at the Central Library. A children’s corner is here too. It offers picture books and children’s tales.
