“Looking for flowers?” A voice calls. Welcome to the Cemitério Municipal de Itapevi. It is more than a final resting place. It is a site of remembrance. It is undergoing revitalization to honor those who rest here.
The Cemitério Municipal de Itapevi has a long history. It has been serving the community since 1955. The cemetery is located in Jardim Julieta. Find it at Rua Gaudêncio Barbosa 486.
The city is creating a new Praça da Paz. This will be at the back of the old cemetery. The square will bring dignity to this space. The licensing process will start soon.
The Praça da Paz will feature names. These will be of those buried in the old cemetery. It will be a large park-like space. It will be a memorial to those who have passed.
The space is approximately 18907.63 m². It will include flagpoles. There will be an ecumenical area. Plaques will remember those who are gone. A portal and viewpoint will separate the public area. This will keep it apart from private graves.
Accessible parking will be available. An arborized entrance will greet visitors. A totem will mark the site. Completion is expected within a year. The city is funding the project. Trees will beautify the area. Species include flamboyant and yellow. Purple ipês and jacarandá caroba trees will be planted. Ornamental stones will add to the landscape.
The revitalization will improve the entire Cemitério Municipal de Itapevi. Floors and drainage will be repaired. There will be containment work plus painting. Repairs will include the portal. The roof will be checked. Frames will be replaced. The external walkway will be redone. This will improve accessibility. The internal floor will be replaced where tree roots have damaged it. The rainwater drainage system will be improved. Containment will address rain damage.
A chapel with a stained-glass window is planned. This will be used for masses. These services happen on days like the Day of the Dead. The revitalization should take about a year. This is from the start of the work.
The Cemitério Municipal de Itapevi is 40730.51 m². It includes both public and private areas. The public area will be demolished. The Praça da Paz will be built there. The private area will stay.
Public burials at the Cemitério Municipal de Itapevi ended in 2022. This happened when the Memorial Parque opened. No more wakes or burials occur here now in the public section.
