Have you ever heard of Tranebergssund? Tranebergssund is a narrow sound in the Western part of the Mälaren lake in Stockholm, Sweden. It separates the island of Kungsholmen from the mainland. The sound has a rich history and is still a popular spot for locals and visitors today. The Tranebergssund is about 800 meters long and at its narrowest point barely 200 meters wide. The deepness varies between 16 and 19 meters. In the early twentieth century, as the population in the Western Suburbs began to grow, the need for a bridge became apparent. In 1934 a double concrete arch bridge was built, with a span of 181 meters. Until then, it was the longest concrete arch bridge span in the world. The bridge also serves as a passage for both road and metro tracks. The Tranebergssund is a beautiful and historic place. The sound is home to three different boat clubs. These are Kristinebergs Båtklubb, Stockholms Segelsällskap and Stockholms Segelsällskap. The sound is also a popular place for swimming and kayaking.
