A brand new playground. That’s what greets you at Richill Park. Richill Park sits near the intersection of Old Windsor Road and Cumberland Highway. It’s a small park tucked away among houses. You can easily access it from the pedestrian overpass on Cumberland Highway. Or from Tanderagee and Lurgan Streets. There is street parking nearby.
Before 2019 the playground was quite old and needed a lot of work. Local families like us voiced their concerns. The council listened. They secured extra funding. Now Richill Park boasts a fantastic new play area for younger children. Think talking tubes a mini merry-go-round swings and a climbing gym.
But that’s not all. A bright and cheerful street library has been added. Older children aren’t forgotten either. The main playground section features a popular four-seat spinning swing. It’s like a thrilling mix between a swing and a flying fox. Spin it fast enough and you’ll get some serious speed. There’s also a tire swing a half-pipe slide and a challenging climbing gym with monkey bars.
The playground floor is covered in soft rubber. A large grassy area is perfect for kicking a ball around. Remember there is no shade at the playground though it does get some natural shade in the afternoon. There are also no toilets bubblers or bins. Sadly there’s a fair bit of litter too. So let’s all try to keep Richill Park clean and beautiful.
Despite its small size Richill Park is a vital community hub. It provides a safe and enjoyable space for children to play. It connects to Toongabbie East Public School and Alice Watkins Reserve via a pedestrian bridge. It’s also conveniently located near the Redbank Track. This trail winds along Toongabbie Creek.
