They carry on the legacy of prominent figures such as Francis Xavier and Ignatius of Loyola, who, along with seven companions, established the Society. The Jesuits are known for their international missionary work. Today, the Society has approximately 20,000 members worldwide. They are involved in a wide range of activities including chaplaincy, education, research, social justice initiatives, writing, and publishing.
