What if Wong Wan Tsui held secrets of aviation pioneers and forgotten heroes? Let me tell you a tale. This isn’t just any cape. Wong Wan Tsui is connected to a story that stretches across continents and through the history of flight itself.

Wong Wan Tsui might seem like a serene spot now. But imagine a time when its shores felt the echoes of innovation. The name “Wong” might trigger a memory of Wong Tsu. He was Boeing’s first engineer. Wong Tsu was instrumental in the company’s early success.

Now you may think: What does this place has to do with Wong Tsu? Maybe nothing. But let me tell you about him. Wong Tsu designed the Model C seaplane. This plane became Boeing’s first financial triumph. Without Wong Tsu, Boeing might not be the giant it is today. Wong Tsu is also hailed as the father of Chinese aviation. After his time in America, he returned to China. There he built an impressive career.

But here is where the curious part begins. Despite his achievements, Wong Tsu remains relatively unknown. Even within Boeing’s own history, he was often overlooked. It took years of effort from Asian American employees at Boeing to bring his contributions to light. Key Donn led this effort. He is the president of the Boeing Asian American Professional Association. Donn spent years tracking down old photos and documents about Wong’s life.

And here is another peculiar fact. Convincing company executives of Wong’s importance was difficult. Today, Seattle’s Museum of Flight hosts the first exhibit honoring Wong’s contributions. It features old photos, personal documents, and a bronze plaque.

Wong was born in Beijing in 1893. He studied naval engineering in England and aeronautical engineering at MIT. In 1917, after only two years as Boeing’s chief engineer, Wong returned to China. Over the next few decades, he took on a number of prestigious positions.

It was not until China became a major customer that other executives really showed their support for it. Last year, China purchased $1.4 billion worth of Boeing planes.

Wong Wan Tsui stands as a silent witness. Perhaps it could inspire us to remember the unsung heroes. Their stories deserve to be told. Wong Wan Tsui may be a beautiful cape. Yet it also serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing contributions, no matter where they come from.
