From a modest engineering school to a renowned institution, the Rheinische Hochschule Köln’s journey is a testament to its adaptability. The Rheinische Hochschule Köln, or RH Köln as it’s often called, started as the Rheinische Ingenieurschule in 1958, founded by Gottfried Päffgen. In 1971, recognizing the need for a broader range of disciplines, it transitioned into the Rheinische Hochschule Köln. This transformation allowed the city of Cologne to offer a complete spectrum of subjects at the Fachhochschule level. The RH Köln isn’t just about lectures and exams. The RH Köln is also deeply committed to research. The Institute for Tool and Production Engineering focuses on advancing production technology. Research on fiber optic sensors aims to develop a system for simultaneous measurement of physical quantities. The university is also involved in a project on electromobility, exploring laser-based joining techniques for battery components.
