Yau Tong Centre. A name echoing with the whispers of Hong Kong’s past. Did you know it first emerged from a partnership between Great Eagle and the Hong Kong Housing Authority? Right here, where these residential buildings stand, Great Eagle won the tender to develop this space, originally named Yau Tong Sun Chuen, as part of the Home Ownership Scheme. This was back in 1978, a pivotal year for Great Eagle. They were also busy with Watford Villa on The Peak and Villa Tahoe in Clearwater Bay. Yau Tong Centre, as we know it, officially opened its doors to residents between September 1980 and September 1981. These nine buildings, housing 506 units, have witnessed over four decades of Hong Kong’s dynamic transformation. The development is part of a larger story of Yau Tong itself. “Oil pond” is the literal translation of Yau Tong, a name derived from its historical association with oil storage and industry. Yau Tong Centre stands as a testament to the changing landscape of this area, evolving from industrial beginnings to a bustling residential hub. Today, Yau Tong Centre enjoys close proximity to the MTR, offering convenient access to the rest of Hong Kong.
