Itabashi High School stands as a beacon of learning. It has proudly served the community since its founding in 1928. For over 85 years, this co-educational public senior high school has been instilling knowledge. It also fosters character in its students.
Originally, Itabashi High School began as Itabashi-Choritsu Girls’ School of Home Economy. The school started on the site of an elementary school. This was Itabashi Jinjo Koto Shogakko. In 1930, the first graduating class consisted of just 19 students. A small start that would grow into something significant.
In 1936, the school moved. It relocated to another elementary school. This was No.9 Elementary School, now in Sakae-cho, Itabashi-ward. A decade later, in 1946, it was renamed Tokyo Metropolitan Itabashi Girls’ School.
A significant change occurred in 1948. The school became Tokyo Metropolitan Itabashi Senior High School. It also started an evening course. That same year, the school moved to its current location. This marked a new chapter in its history.
Co-education arrived in 1949. This further transformed Itabashi High School. The evening course became independent in 1959. It then became part of Tokyo Metropolitan Oyama Senior High School. Construction completed part of the current school building in 1961.
Itabashi High School celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2008. A new school building was completed in 2018.
Itabashi High School provides a balanced comprehensive education. The school aims to develop each student’s individuality and ability. It supports students so that they may achieve self-realization. The curriculum includes integrated Japanese language, world history, mathematics, and sciences. It also includes physical education, arts, and English communication.

Throughout the year, Itabashi High School hosts various events. There is an art appreciation event, a home room camp, and a one-day school excursion. Students also participate in an athletic meeting. A school festival takes place in September.
Today, Itabashi High School continues to thrive. It has approximately 800 students and 60 staff members. The school’s location is in a quiet, green area of Itabashi-ward. It is conveniently close to central Tokyo. Itabashi High School remains dedicated to nurturing future generations.
