Fuyuki Bentendo Temple is dedicated to Benzaiten. She is the goddess of wisdom, wealth, happiness, and music. The temple’s story began in the 17th century. Buddhist monk Tenkai founded it. He served as head priest of Edo’s Kaneiji Temple.
Tenkai chose this site carefully. He believed it resembled Benzaiten’s legendary island home. Initially, it was Benten-yashiro. The Shogunate later renamed it Shinobazu no ike Bentendo Temple.
