Decades ago this very spot might have looked very different. Now welcome to Caribbean Coast.

Caribbean Coast is more than just a residential area. It represents Hong Kong’s vibrant blend of cultures and rapid development. Caribbean Coast is located in Hong Kong. The Port of Shenzhen is nearby. It is one of the busiest and fastest-growing container ports. Shenzhen’s port system ranks as the third largest in China. It handles a massive amount of traffic. In 2022 the port managed over 30 million TEUs.

Imagine the bustling activity at the Port of Shenzhen. Cargo ships arrive from around the globe. They bring goods from many countries. This port is a key part of China’s 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. This initiative boosts investment and economic collaboration. It stretches along the historic Maritime Silk Road routes.

The Port of Shenzhen is divided into eastern and western sections. They are split by Hong Kong’s New Territories and Kowloon Peninsula. The western port is east of Lingdingyang. It provides a deep-water harbor with natural shelters. This area connects to the Pearl River region. It allows access to cities like Hong Kong and Guangzhou. The eastern port sits north of Mirs Bay. Its harbors are broad and calm. Many consider it South China’s best natural harbor.

The Port of Shenzhen includes six ports. They are Yantian, Dapeng, Nanshan, Dachan Bay, Dachan Island, and Bao’an. These ports have a total of 140 berths. Fifty-one of these berths can accommodate large vessels. The Shekou Cruise Center offers ferry services. You can travel across the Pearl River Delta. Destinations include Hong Kong, Macau, and Zhuhai.

Shenzhen itself has transformed dramatically. In 1979 it was a small border city. It had only 30,000 residents. It served as a customs stop from Hong Kong. That year Shenzhen became a Special Economic Zone. This opened the city to foreign investment and technology.

From 1980 Shenzhen grew at an incredible pace. Domestic and foreign capital poured into the city. Wages and living standards rose. Workers flocked to Shenzhen. They sought jobs in factories producing electronics and textiles. This growth became known as “Shenzhen Speed.” The Chinese government then created more Special Economic Zones. Shenzhen became a test zone for economic reform.

Today Shenzhen thrives as a major hub. It excels in international trade and manufacturing. Many call it the “Silicon Valley of China”. Shenzhen is known for its amusement parks and scenic mountains.

As you explore Caribbean Coast remember the broader context. Shenzhen’s rise from a small town to a global city shows China’s economic transformation. The nearby Port of Shenzhen drives much of this growth. It connects this region to the world.
