Curiosity stirred within me, drawing me to the Spanish Assembly of God Church. Here at the Spanish Assembly of God Church in Santa Fe, we uncover a vibrant story. In the late 1990s, Pastor Jesus Lopez, originally from Juarez, Mexico, completed training organized by Latin American Ministries. This training, under Bishop Ray Seilhamer, was designed for Hispanic UB ministers in the United States. Now leading the Centro Cristiano Shalom, the Spanish Assembly of God Church, Pastor Lopez embodies humility and warmth. In June 2014, Bishop Phil Whipple visited the Spanish Assembly of God Church, accompanied by his wife and Bishop Denis Casco of the Mexico Conference. The congregation, remarkably young and energetic, embraced the visitors with open arms. Pastor Lopez’s children, part of the worship team, contributed to the lively, Spanish-language service. A unique slideshow showcased Santa Fe’s cultural blend, highlighting Indian influences, and even touching upon the presence of satanic worship and a strong gay movement. Following the service, a delicious meal prepared by Pastor Lopez’s son, a culinary student, fostered fellowship. The genuine warmth of the congregation extended to gifts of long-sleeved shirts adorned with the UB logo and the inscription “Church of the United Brothers in Christ.” Pastor Lopez, though initially hesitant to speak English, gradually opened up, revealing his ability to converse comfortably. The Spanish Assembly of God Church stands as a testament to the power of faith, community, and cross-cultural connection. Their dedication to unity and reconciliation within the Hispanic community shines brightly in Santa Fe.
