Did you ever hear of a village whose name whispers its location? Dolany u Kladna, first mentioned in 1384, translates to “people of the valley”. Dolany u Kladna nestles in the gentle valley of the Dolanský Brook. This brook later becomes the Zákolanský. Dolany u Kladna started as the smaller “Dolánky”, a name it held until the 16th century. The shift to “Dolany” in 1656, recorded as “Dorf Dolan”, marks a return to the root form, perhaps mirroring the village’s growth. A chapel from the 15th century graces Dolany u Kladna. This chapel served as a place of pilgrimage for processions to the Unhošť church. Across from this chapel stands a poignant memorial. It commemorates those who fell in the First World War. Another memorial marks a tragic event. On January 13, 1947, a Czechoslovak Airlines DC-3, registered OK-XDU, crashed near Dolany u Kladna. This memorial, located southwest of the village near a small wood, remembers the three-person crew who perished. Two remarkable oak trees, estimated to be around 300 years old, add to Dolany u Kladna’s unique character. One resides in a garden at house number 20, the other stands just beyond the gardens on the western edge of the village. In 2016, Dolany u Kladna was home to 281 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2024, the population stands at 286. Dolany u Kladna is a testament to resilience. The village has undergone significant modernization since 1989. Local roads and sidewalks have been improved, and a water supply system completed. In 1994, telephone lines connected every household. Gas lines followed. Today, the community considers a wastewater treatment plant.
