Did you hear about the village whose name evolved through a misunderstanding? That’s Nučice for you, the home of Muzeum Nučice. Situated 16 kilometers east of Říčany, near Kostelec nad Černými lesy, Muzeum Nučice holds the memories of this unique village. The name “Vnučice,” meaning “village of grandsons,” gradually morphed into “Nučice” as people mistook the “V” for an error. This museum, operated by the Obecní úřad Nučice, opens its doors for special occasions and by appointment. It’s housed in a former Kampelička, a building dating back to 1909. Inside, you’ll discover photographic exhibits detailing the history of mining in Nučice. You’ll also see photos and artifacts showcasing the local social organizations and the “Železo” military unit. The museum’s collection, established in 1970, specializes in the local mining history. The displays haven’t changed much since 2009, offering a glimpse into the past. Muzeum Nučice is more than just a museum. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of a community whose identity was shaped by a simple linguistic quirk.
