Here stands a sentinel of suburban life. It’s the Segersjö vattentorn. This structure quietly ensures the daily routines of countless residents. It is easy to overlook this tower. Yet, its presence is vital to the community.

The Segersjö vattentorn is located in Segersjö. Segersjö is a suburb of Tumba. Tumba is within Botkyrka Municipality. This municipality is part of Stockholm County in southeastern Sweden. The tower resides between Tumba to the east and Uttran to the west.

Construction of the Segersjö vattentorn finished in 1946. AB Skånska Cementgjuteriet built it. The tower’s height reaches 32 meters. Its shaft, made of concrete, is 25 meters tall. The concrete casting happened using a sliding form. This process only took six and a half days. It saved the client about 13,800 Swedish crowns.

Segersjö began its development in 1949. Botkyrka Municipality initiated the construction. They built the first apartment buildings in the area. Initially, these were three-story buildings without elevators. However, in 1957, an eight-story building was completed on Kyrkvärdsvägen. A new point house was also built on Kyrkvärdsvägen in 2007.

The Segersjö area includes Rödstu hage sports ground and Pelletäppan tennis hall. Tumba Folkets hus and Segersjöparken are also located here. To the west, you’ll find two smaller lakes. They are Kvarnsjön and Segersjön.

Several other water towers dot the landscape around Stockholm. For example, there are several water towers in Botkyrka. One is located on Tre Källors väg in Hallunda. Another stands on Tullingebergsvägen in Tullinge. Additionally, there is one on Flemings väg in Hamra egnahem.

The Tullinge water tower was built in 1957. It has a capacity of 200 cubic meters. The height to its highest water level is 28 meters. The tank is made of steel. It features an octagonal vertical section. Diagonal tie rods provide support. Cork insulates the structure. The spherical shell around it has a diameter of 8.6 meters. It is covered in 1.5 meters of plain aluminum. The supporting cylinder was cast using sliding forms. The tank was assembled on the ground. Then it was lifted into place. Orrje & Co. were the engineers and architects for this project. Hamnbyggnadsbyrån was the contractor.

Another water tower is located on Storvretsvägen in Tumba. It has a reservoir volume of 800 cubic meters. Its height to the highest water level is 43 meters. It was completed in 1966. Orrje & Co. also designed this tower. Karlsson & Wingesjö served as the contractor.

The Segersjö vattentorn is more than just a functional structure. It is a landmark. It represents the growth and development of the surrounding community. Its construction in 1946 marked a significant step. It ensured a reliable water supply for the residents of Segersjö. As you stand here, take a moment to appreciate the ingenuity.
