“Solipsy,” an old name whispers from the past. Solipse stands here in Warsaw’s Włochy district. It was once a village now it is a housing estate.

Let’s journey back to the 14th century. Solipse then bordered Czechowice, Skorosze, and Porzucew. Imagine the rural landscape, fields stretching as far as the eye could see.

In 1580, Solipsi was a noble village. It was located in the Warsaw county of the Mazovian Voivodeship.

Stanisław Rakowski became the owner. He also owned the neighboring Włochy. The two settlements slowly merged.

By 1827, Solipse had 17 houses. They lined today’s Solipska Street and housed 262 residents. By the late 19th century, it grew. It had 40 farms and almost 100 hectares of arable land.

However, Solipse’s growth was stunted. Tsarist authorities began building the Warsaw Fortress. Initially, a ring of fortifications surrounded the city, with a radius of 5.5 km.

In 1886, tensions rose with Prussia and Austria-Hungary. The Russians decided to erect a second outer ring of fortifications. It consisted of 18 forts connected by earthen embankments.

Fort V was built in Solipse. It stands where the Ryżowa Street cemetery is today. The development plans of Solipse were stopped and changed forever.
Solipse has a rich history. It evolved from a village to part of Warsaw. Its story shows the changing times and the impact of historical events on local communities.
Today, Solipse is a reminder of Warsaw’s past. It is a place where history and modernity meet.
