Grotta di Campo Sacro

Slipping through the earth’s embrace, the Grotta di Campo Sacro whispers tales of subterranean secrets. The Grotta di Campo Sacro isn’t just a hole in the ground. It’s a time capsule nestled in the northwestern slope of a large doline near Trieste. This cave, known as Grotta di Campo Sacro, sits close to a striking villa and the deer park of the Elio Furniture company. The Grotta di Campo Sacro unfolds along a northeast-southwest fracture. It boasts two entrances, though only one is currently accessible. A short initial shaft leads into a small chamber. This chamber widens towards the southwest, descending into a concreted, sloping shaft. At its bottom, a small drop leads into a narrow fissure ending in a water basin. On the opposite side, a climb leads up into a small, decorated chamber. From the base of the small entrance drop, the cave continues gently upwards to a small chamber. To the right of this chamber, a narrow passage opens into a small tunnel. This tunnel connects to the second, currently impassable, entrance. The cave stretches 30 meters across and plunges 18.5 meters deep. The total vertical drop also measures 18.5 meters. The bottom of the cave rests at an altitude of 208.5 meters. The Grotta di Campo Sacro is a hidden gem. It offers a glimpse into the geological wonders beneath our feet. Its beauty lies in the shadows.
