Established in 1894 Rustenburg Girls’ High School stands proudly. It’s a testament to the vision of Reverend BP Marchand. He believed Rondebosch needed a school for girls. The school opened its doors with 76 pupils. Eleven were boys. Despite attempts to send them elsewhere. They were included in the initial student body.

Rustenburg Girls’ High School wasn’t always located here. It began in the historic Rustenburg House. This building dates back to the early Dutch settlement at the Cape. It’s a national monument. Today it houses the Junior School. In 1932 the high school moved to its current location. This was on Erinvale Estate and Charlie’s Hope. Charlie’s Hope was later demolished and rebuilt closer to the main school buildings.

The school’s motto is Palmam Qui Meruit Ferat. It means Let Whoever Earns the Palm Bear It. It’s a powerful message. It reflects the school’s commitment to academic excellence. Rustenburg Girls’ High School has consistently ranked among the top schools in South Africa. It boasts a 100% matric pass rate in 2014. They achieved a 98.7% Bachelor’s Pass rate that same year. In 2023 a matriculant was honored. She was the country’s top candidate overall and in mathematics.

There are numerous cultural societies. They include an Afrikaans society art and design societies and debating clubs. The school is equipped with excellent facilities. Nine tennis courts a swimming pool and two hockey cricket fields. It has a music department media center and even hostels.

Over the years Rustenburg Girls’ High School has produced notable graduates. These include Nicky Greenwall Desiree Talbot Louise Carver Gaby Lomberg and Debora Patta.
