Palmovka transitioned from a pastoral landscape to an industrial powerhouse in the mid-19th century. A distillery and a soap and candle factory sprung up, marking the beginning of the area’s transformation. Later, Vojtěch Švarc, the new owner in 1889, parceled out the land, giving rise to the apartment buildings that define Palmovka today. This area, once a quiet vineyard, became a vital transportation link. Approximately 60,000 people pass through Palmovka daily, utilizing the metro and bus connections. But Palmovka is more than just a transit point. It’s a place where history and innovation collide. The planned demolition of the current bus station marks a new chapter in Palmovka’s story. In its place will rise shops, apartments, and essential services, breathing new life into this often-overlooked district. A square dedicated to the renowned Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal will become a focal point for the community, a place to gather and celebrate the district’s cultural heritage. The arrival of the European Union Space Programme Agency (EUSPA) headquarters further cements Palmovka’s emergence as a hub of innovation. The “Nová Palmovka Center” building, a symbol of progress, will bring new jobs and opportunities to the area. Palmovka’s transformation isn’t just about bricks and mortar.
