Brace yourselves for a dizzying ascent into Sāo Paulo’s skyline. Before us stands Mirante do Vale. It loosely translates to Overlook of the Valley Condominium. This is more than just a building. It’s a landmark etched in the city’s history.

Completed in 1966, Mirante do Vale held the title of Sāo Paulo’s tallest building for 54 years. Only in 2022 did Platina 220 surpass it. It was also Brazil’s tallest until 2014. The Millennium Palace in Balneário Camboriú took the crown.

Imagine Sāo Paulo in the 1960s. The city was booming. It was reaching for the sky. Mirante do Vale became a symbol of this ambition.

Waldomiro Zarzur and Aron Kogan designed this skyscraper. Zarzur was the engineer and Kogan was the architect. Its construction spanned from 1959 to 1966. It reflects a time of innovation and progress.

Originally known as Palácio Zarzur Kogan, the building’s name changed in 1988. Mirante do Vale is strategically located in the Vale do Anhangabaú region. It has three entrances. They are on Prestes Maia Avenue, Pedro Lessa Square, and Brigadeiro Tobias Street.

From Mirante do Vale’s summit, you can see the entire downtown area. The view stretches toward Paulista Avenue. Buildings like Itália and Altino Arantes are visible.

The building has 51 floors. It covers a floor area of 75000 square meters. Twelve elevators whisk people up and down.

Interestingly, because Mirante do Vale sits in a valley, it might seem shorter than other buildings. Edifício Itália and Altino Arantes Building may appear taller. Despite this, its height is undeniable.

Though public access is limited, permission can be granted to visit the top. Once there, the panoramic view is unparalleled.

The concrete lattice structure atop Mirante do Vale once supported neon signs. Fanta and Sharp were among the brands advertised.

Mirante do Vale remains a significant part of Sāo Paulo’s architectural heritage.
