Have you ever heard of a brewery that was closed for a half-century? The Unetic brewery, right in front of us, is one such survivor. The brewery was built in 1710, although records from 1557 mention beer brewing in the village. However, the brewery faced a period of closure. They were forced to quit production in 1949. Unetic’s brewing history ended, and the building was used as a warehouse. But then, a group of passionate people envisioned this building’s revival.
The Unetic brewery experienced a second birth in 2010. In March, works began on the “Rebirth of the Unetice Brewery” project. A company called Unetic Brewery was formed to re-establish the brewery. They bought the brewery back from the company that had been using it as a warehouse. On April 4th, 2011, newly installed brewing equipment was put in place. On May 15th, the first batch of the revived Unetice beer was brewed. The doors of the Unetic Brewery were opened on June 11th, 2011. The brewery’s new history began. The story of the Unetic brewery is a reminder that even after periods of silence, the spirit of brewing lives on.
