Peeking out from behind the trees, St. Elizabeth Catholic High School awaits. St. Elizabeth opened its doors in 1988. Thornhill became its proud home.
St. Elizabeth is a secondary school. It has about 120 staff. Around 1300 students attend from Grades 9 to 12. The school supports specialty programs in the arts and academics. Diverse co-curricular activities and cutting-edge facilities enhance these programs.
St. Elizabeth Catholic High School first opened in 1987. It only had grade nine students then. The school added the tenth grade for the 1988-1989 school year. The eleventh grade followed later in 1989.
Overpopulation led to a change of site. Construction began in 1988 for the current location. It officially opened to students and staff in February 1990. The original location became Holy Family Catholic School in September 1990. It is at 21 Mullen Drive in Thornhill.
St. Elizabeth offers unique programs. The acclaimed multidisciplinary Regional Arts Program is one. It has been around since 2003. It offers specialized training in six disciplines. These are Visual Arts Digital Media Arts Dance Drama Instrumental Music and Vocal Music.
Specialist High Skills Majors are also available. These programs focus learning with industry certifications. Students gain experience. They get a head start on post-secondary planning. This includes apprenticeships college university or the workplace.
