Ah the aroma of Nitida Winery. It’s intoxicating isn’t it?

Nestled in the heart of Durbanville Wine Valley this family-owned winery is more than just a place to sample award-winning wines. It’s a story of passion dedication and a touch of serendipity.

The Veller family purchased a small Durbanville farm in 1990. Bernhard a qualified engineer took a two-week break from his career in 1992. He planted a vineyard. He only planned to make a few barrels of wine. Three years later Nitida’s Sauvignon Blanc won its first gold medal. That’s quite a return on a two-week holiday. In 2001 Nitida achieved recognition as a benchmark Semillon producer. Their success is not accidental. It’s a testament to their meticulous approach. They perfect small details and treat each batch of juice with respect. This commitment extends to working with nature itself ensuring the wines reflect the terroir and the Nitida philosophy.

Helgard van Schalkwyk joined the team in 2023 as winemaker. He continues the legacy of creating beautiful award-winning wines. The Nitida method prioritizes minimal intervention. The wines are allowed to showcase the unique characteristics of the microclimate. The handmade approach isn’t just a process; it’s an attitude.

Nitida embodies devotion passion and aspiration. You can stroll through the cellar enjoy the wine tastings and dine at Cassia Restaurant or Tables at Nitida. This is more than just a winery. It’s an experience that encompasses the senses and leaves a lasting impression. It’s a testament to the dedication of a family that dared to dream and succeeded beyond expectations. So raise your glass to Nitida a story written one exceptional vintage at a time.
