Have you ever heard of a place called Orhems gård? It’s an old manor house in Stockholm, nestled right next to Drevviken.

Orhems gård is much older than you might think. Its roots stretch all the way back to the 1400s. Back then, it was known as Orem, a simple farmhouse. But over time, it transformed into a grand manor, passing through the hands of various noble families like the Bielkes and the Oxenstiernas.

One of the most intriguing stories surrounding Orhems gård revolves around a woman named Karin Oxenstierna. She inherited the manor from her aunt, but she never called it home. Instead, she sold it to a postmaster named Johan von Beijer in 1662. Now, why did she leave this beautiful manor? Well, that’s a mystery. Maybe she preferred the lively hustle and bustle of the city to the peaceful countryside. Or perhaps she had a secret yearning for something more, something beyond the confines of the manor walls.

Whatever the reason, Karin’s departure paved the way for a succession of owners. One of these was Ebba Gustava af Wirsén, wife of renowned composer Hildebrand Hildebrandsson. Ebba became known as “Frun i skogen” – “The Lady of the Woods” – because she often spent time alone at this secluded manor, writing letters to friends. It was a time when the pace of life was slower, and people found comfort and solace in the solitude of nature. And as for the Manor House itself, the main building you see today dates back to the 1860s, replacing an earlier building destroyed by fire.

Today, Orhems gård is a testament to a rich history, a reminder of the lives that have passed through its doors. The manor is a place where history whispers in the wind and echoes down the corridors.
