The Pomnik Jezusa Chrystusa isn’t actually in Warsaw. It resides in Swiebodzin a smaller town. It is however a significant landmark for Poland. This colossal figure of Jesus Christ stands as a powerful reminder of religious devotion.
Its creation was a labor of love. Father Sylwester Zawadzki a local priest spearheaded the project. He poured his life into making this vision a reality. Donations poured in from across the globe. Even contributors from Canada helped fund this impressive structure.
The statue took five years to build. It stands 33 meters tall. That’s one meter for each year of Jesus’ life. A golden crown adds to its majestic height. The total height including its base is over 52.5 meters. The statue weighs an incredible 440 tons. Local talent built it. Miroslaw Kazimierz Patecki designed it. Marian Wybraniec designed the impressive base.
The Pomnik Jezusa Chrystusa is designed with open arms. This symbolizes Jesus’ embrace of all humanity. Unlike the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil it wears a crown. This gilded crown stands six feet tall.
Father Zawadzki considered this his life’s work. He felt it fulfilled his purpose as a priest. He expressed his gratitude to Jesus for enabling him to bring this vision to life.
The Pomnik Jezusa Chrystusa has transformed Swiebodzin. It has become a major tourist attraction. The little-known town now draws visitors from far and wide. The statue was even featured in a Polish film called Mug. This film won the Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin Film Festival in 2018.
