“Aspire the Heights” is not just a motto. It is a living principle embodied by Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School. Founded in 1963 as Nepean High School, this institution has evolved. It became a specialist school for the Creative and Performing Arts in 2011.
Nepean High School stands proudly in Emu Plains. It is adjacent to the Emu Plains railway station, making it easily accessible. The school’s transformation reflects a commitment to providing diverse opportunities. It welcomes local students, auditioned students, and those in special education programs.
Before its CAPA designation, Nepean High School had just over 500 students in 2010. That number has more than doubled. Today, the school educates around 896 students from Year 7 to Year 12.
Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School offers specialized education. Gifted and talented students from Western Sydney can hone their skills here. The school fosters a culturally rich environment. It allows students to study Circus, Dance, Drama, Music, and Creative Arts. Year 7 students can audition for one main area. Successful students get five periods per fortnight in their chosen subject. They remain in that subject through Stages 4 and 5. This allows them to develop consistently. They prepare for senior high school effectively. Students can also audition for ensembles and companies. These rehearse throughout the school week.
Nepean High School is recognized nationally for its Careers program. It holds the prestigious title of “Platinum Alumni” level Beacon School. The school combines innovative and traditional studies. It offers a wide choice for students. It emphasizes academic achievement alongside creative and vocational courses.
Set on 12 hectares, Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School boasts modern facilities. These facilities include the Nepean Arts Centre, opened in 2013. There are also comprehensive sporting facilities. A working farm engages students from Year 8.
Despite its successes, Nepean High School faced challenges in 2009. Its agricultural areas were targeted by animal cruelty attacks. A goat and several chickens were killed. Other animals were mutilated. The perpetrators were never identified. The community rallied in support. A walk-a-thon raised funds. These funds replaced the animals and improved security.
