How did North Bethesda United Methodist Church begin? It started with Reverend Richard Irving in September 1956. By November, it already had 118 charter members.
The Fellowship Hall now Johnson Hall was consecrated in March 1959. The parsonage was added in June 1960. Finally, the Sanctuary was consecrated on December 19 1965. North Bethesda United Methodist Church grew steadily.
North Bethesda UMC is located between Bethesda and Rockville MD. It sits just off the Washington Beltway. This makes it accessible to many.
It is a spirited and diverse congregation. North Bethesda UMC is part of the Reconciling Ministries Network. This means it welcomes the LGBTQ community. They can fully participate in the church’s life.
Let’s talk about music. When it was time to replace their old organ North Bethesda United Methodist Church chose Allen Organ DC. They wanted an instrument for traditional services. But they also needed flexibility for modern blended worship.
Allen Organ DC suggested a Bravura L-343DK. It came in a custom French Terrace Console. This helps the organist conduct from the console. The church wanted a beautiful console. It needed to match the existing furniture. The organ has an oak case. It features rosewood keyboard and pedal sharps. Rosewood drawknob stems are included. Maple drawknob caps and backrail rockertab overlays complete the design.
The installation was challenging. It required designing eight-foot-high decks. This allowed the speakers to be installed high up. They could then project sound into the congregation. A choir antiphonal system was added. It provides extra support. The Trumpet en chamde is on the rear wall about 20 feet off the floor.
Hector Olivera dedicated this organ on February 26 2017. The church was packed. Today North Bethesda United Methodist continues to be a welcoming place. It blends tradition with modern needs. The church stands as a testament to its founding principles.
