Once upon a time Sibřina was mentioned for the first time in 1197. This is a fascinating detail about Sibřina. We are standing in Sibřina now. It is a municipality and village in the Prague-East District. It is found in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. About 1100 people live here. Sibřina lies on the eastern border of Prague. It is about 18 kilometers east of Prague’s center.

Sibřina is made up of two municipal parts. These are Sibřina and Stupice. In 2021, Sibřina had 850 residents. Stupice had 230 residents.

Let’s delve into Sibřina’s past. In 1197, Bertoldus de Zebrin and his two nephews were named as the first owners. Albert Menhart, a Prague burgher, owned Sibřina at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Vítek ze Švábenic owned it soon after. He first pawned it. In 1309, he repaid the money for the sold property.

In 1318, yeomen Čeněk and Zdislav lived in the village. Later, the royal chamberlain Velfl lived here. In 1349, Sibřina belonged to Jan. He was the son of Albert Menhart from Prague’s Old Town. That year, he negotiated with the Zderaz monastery about the border towards Újezd. His son Václav sold Sibřina to his uncle Pešík Bohuslav. Pešík Bohuslav also owned neighboring Květnice. His son Jan took it over after him. Jošt inherited Sibřina. He demonstrably held it in the years 1408–1411. The local fortress is first mentioned at this time.

Milota z Hrušova managed Sibřina until about 1439. He managed it for the minor Jošt’s son, Janek. Jan ze Sibřiny lived in the local fortress until the end of 1470. He is mentioned from 1437 in Prague’s town books. He died and left a daughter, Dorota.

Before 1492, Václav Tluksa Vrábský z Vrábí gained Sibřina. He gained a plundered farm and other goods. Václav was one of four brothers from the Tluksa Vrábský family. After his death before 1520, Jetřich Tluksa Vrábský z Vrábí inherited Sibřina. Before 1525, he sold it to Adam Tluksa Vrábský z Vrábí. In 1544, the Sibřina fortress was still in his possession. Before 1555, his son Hynek Vrábský z Vrábí inherited it.

Hynek pawned the Sibřina fortress to Václav Crkovský ze Zahrádky. Václav transferred the pledge to the brothers Bohuslav and Karel Horšátecký. These transferred it in 1573 to Zikmund Vrabský. In 1578, Johanka Chodourová z Vrábí acquired Sibřina from Zikmund Vrábský.

In 1579, she divided her minor aunts. These were Mandaléna Šárovcová z Chodů, Alena, and Sobina. They were daughters of her sister Kateřina Vachtlová z Vrabí. She issued them a share from Sibřina for 3500 copies of Meissen groschen. In 1583, she sold three ponds from the estate. Finally, in 1587, she sold the remaining Sibřina property. She sold it to Vilém the Elder Malovec z Malovic. He attached it to Koloděje.

In 1588, Vilém the Elder Malovec sold his part of Koloděje including Sibřina. He sold it to Václav Homuta z Harasova and his wife Eva z Malovic. In 1589, they transferred it to Jaroslav Smiřický ze Smiřic and na Kostelci nad Černými lesy.

After the Battle of White Mountain, the widowed owner of Jičín, Markéta Salomena Slavata, had to flee the country as a non-Catholic. Albrecht of Valdštejn took over the administration of Jičín and other Smiřice estates. He was the guardian of her feeble-minded brother, Jindřich Jiří Smiřický. He asserted his hereditary claims because his mother Markéta was from the Smiřice family. He became the owner of one of the largest estates in Bohemia.

Jindřich Jiří Smiřický died de facto as Valdštejn’s prisoner in 1630. Markéta Salomena died after 1654. Albrecht of Valdštejn did not hold the Smiřice family property for long. After the Battle of White Mountain, he sold it in 1623. He sold it to the imperial lieutenant Karel of Liechtenstein. This property remained in his family until the revolution in the 20th century.

From this time, the Sibřina fortress belonged to the Uhříněves estate. It was mentioned for the last time in 1621. The plundered farm with the village and new houses in Vidrholc also belonged to it. It was recently assumed that the fortress disappeared without a trace. It is possible that it is still located in the masonry of house number 212. This house is in the farm complex above the pond in the northern part of the village.
