Why did the Lubavitcher Rebbe choose the name “Beit Rivka”? Here at the Beit Rivka School for girls in Tel Aviv, that question often arises. Beit Rivka, meaning “House of Rebecca,” was established in 1957 by the Chabad Society in Israel with the blessing of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. The Rebbe named the school after his grandmother, Rebbetzin Rivkah Schneersohn. Beit Rivka School for girls began as a teacher training institution, reflecting the Chabad emphasis on education. Over time, Beit Rivka School for girls evolved. It became a two-year seminary and eventually a full-fledged teachers’ college. Today, Beit Rivka School for girls grants both B.A. and M.A. degrees. The college’s curriculum is comprehensive. It offers majors in Oral Law, Jewish Bible, math, English, science, and Informal education. Beit Rivka School for girls also provides specialized training tracks for preschool, elementary school, junior high school, and special education teachers. The institution boasts five buildings. These include classrooms, administrative offices, a modern library, computer labs, editing studios, a pedagogical resource center, and dormitories. Beit Rivka School for girls continues its mission to train teachers who uphold Chabad’s Jewish values and strengthen Jewish identity throughout Israel and the diaspora.
